Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth celebrates in Douro Marina the Gaia’s candidacy for European Youth Capital 2024

The Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth celebrated the International Youth Day and the candidacy of Gaia for the European Youth Capital 2024, in Douro Marina.

The event, in partnership with the National Youth Council, was attended by the Portuguese Secretary of State of Youth and Sport, João Paulo Rebelo, to support Vila Nova de Gaia’s candidacy for the European Youth Capital 2024.

As part of the International Youth Day, activities were also carried out in the rest of the country, more than 700 young people collected garbage in 36 coastal and river beaches to mobilize the message of youth awareness for environmental sustainability.

The United Nations has established the theme ” Youth Engagement for Global Action” for this International Youth Day.

The Secretary of State, João Paulo Rebelo, stressed that this theme was chosen due to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and that the international community has exactly one decade to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
